Royal Doulton Figurines: A Charlton Standard Catalogue [Paperback]
Jean Dale
Jean Dale (Author)
Book Description
Publication Date: July 7, 2009 | Edition: 12th Edition The 12th edition of Royal Doulton Figurines will be released July 7th in North America and two weeks later in the United Kingdom. This edition contains the highest number of pages of any collectable book published by The Charlton Press. With only 15 months between the 10th and 11th editions, the indications were such that the collectable market was holding, but soon after the release of the 11th edition the market slowed. It is now almost three years later that we are printing the 12th edition,
Over this period of time a lot has happened in the Doulton world. Production of the standard figures has shifted completely to the Far East. Prestige figures are still produced in the U.K. in small limited edition sizes. Royal Doulton under the stewardship of Waterford Wedgewood has entered reorganization. Over the three year period (2007-2009) 488 new figures have been issued. The worldwide economic slowdown which began in 2007 continues through 2009, with signs it will continue into 2010. The Collectors Club based in the United Kingdom closed. A new Collectors Club based in Canada has just released its first Gallery Magazine.
The Doulton market, as with all collectable markets is changing. Thirty new series have been introduced since the 11th edition, a rather high number by any standards. Some of the morenotable are: Butterfly Ladies, Window Seasons Collection, Pioneers, Balloon Clowns, Family and Friends, plus three monthly series, Gemstones, Flower of the Month and Signs of the Zodiac, and a festive series Holiday Traditi ons.Two new Prestige figures have been introduced for 2009, the Samurai Warrior and Knight of the Crusades. New releases, discontinuation dates and up-to-date pricing have been revised for 2009, resulting in the most current edition of Royal Doulton Figurines that every collector must have.

A Collector’s Book of Retired Lladro: Genuine Figurines & Their Marks [Paperback]
Peggy Whiteneck (Author)
Book Description
Publication Date: August 23, 2010 Ever since its founding in the 1950s and its subsequent, stellar rise to global prominence, collectors have been fascinated with the singular modeling and attention to detail in Lladró Spanish porcelain figurines. Eventually, collectors discovered that Lladró wasn’t just one brand but several. At the same time, other companies began to sprout up all over Spain, particularly around Lladró’s own region in Valencia, working “in the Lladró style” and hoping to catch a ride on the tailwinds of its popularity. This book is written to acquaint readers with retired figurines in all the Lladró and Lladró- affiliated brands and to help distinguish them from the work of other Spanish companies. The book features substantive chapters on the Lladró(r) “core brand,” NAO by Lladró, Zaphir, Golden Memories, Rosal, and Hispania, complete with representative photos.
About the Author
Peggy Whiteneck is the author of the poetry collection From These Earthly Parts, also published by Old Line Publishing. Her previous book on Lladró was Collecting Lladró; An Identification and Price Guide (now out of print, Krause Publications, 2001 & 2003). She is a devoted collector of Lladró porcelains and has done much of the research that has informed the growth of the secondary market over the last ten years. Her web site “El Portal Porcelana” (www.elportalporcelana.info) has an international following among collectors of Spanish porcelain. Peggy also writes feature articles on antiques and collectibles as well as a national syndicated column entitled Good Eye: A Collector’s View of the Antiques and Collectibles Trade. In addition to Lladró, her other collecting interests include Chinese and Japanese porcelains and Fenton Art Glass figurines.
Coalport Figurines and Collectables (Charlton Standard Catalogue) [Paperback]
Jean Dale and Alf Willis (Author), W.K. Cross (Editor)
Product Description
Excellent Comprehensive Collectors’ Guide, November 4, 2011 By Brett H “pentangle” (Brighton) – See all my reviewsThis review is from: Coalport Figurines and Collectables (Charlton Standard Catalogue) (Paperback) This book is an excellent, comprehensive reference book of Coalport figures which will be invaluable to the collector. It is divided into three sections. The first section focuses on figurines produced by Coalport from 1891 to date together with full details including designer, dates of production and discontinuation, varieties etc. The second section covers Coalport cottages, which are my personal interest and of which over 160 are listed. The final section covers the childrens type figures such as Basil Brush and Wallace & Gromit. Only about 10% of the book is in colour which is a shame – I imagine that the powers that be at Charlton are very tight on print costs.
Do take the price guide with a pinch of salt. Charlton do have an unenviable task in collating information from many different sources – auctions, internet, dealers etc. and take an informed view as to what the current market value of any particular item is. However, that is not to say this is the ‘right’ price and you will find that a bit of patience and a lot of searching around will mean you can normally buy much more keenly. I know for a fact that there are some great bargains in Coalport cottages on Ebay to be got at present!
